What's the cheapest way to cloth diaper? Your Grandma's diapers!

I've had a lot of people ask me about cloth diapers.  Up until now I've suggested Bum Genius 4.0 pockets and Flip Covers with stay dry inserts. I had this pretty little stash of varius brands of pocket diapers as well as covers with inserts.  I thought I was set until potty training.   Well, my little guy plays by his own rules.  Eczema got the best of him and after 2 weeks of having to use disposable diapers I decided to try all cotton diapers.  My options were mainly prefolds and flats.  Prefolds are those diapers that everyone uses as burp cloths.  They are rectangles with a thick strip down the middle.  I had a few of these, so I figured, why not try it.  They were bulky and didn't seem very comfortable, but no rash! So, I decided to order some flats.  I've heard rave reviews about them being trim and easy to wash/dry, so why not?   I looked up videos on how to fold flats and well, I just don't think pinning or using a snappi is my cup of tea.  I like EASY.  So here is what I decided to do.
Start with a 27"x27" flat (these are osocozy flats)
Fold it in half
Fold in half again
Fold left side over to the midpoint
Fold it in again one more time
You could just make it flat here instead of having it bigger on one side, but I like it thick in front for more absorption.  Holds up to Mr. Super Soaker REALLY well.
Tuck into Flip cover.  Put the thicker end in the front for boys or tummy sleepers, back for girls.
I've tried this with my other covers and so far Flip comes out looking the neatest since the cover lays flat.
See trimness in booty:
Now go buy some flats and enjoy!!! :) I'm so happy with this new simple diaper.  No more dealing with soap build up, stink,  or rashes.   Just simple and cheap!
I showed my mom these "new" diapers of mine tonight and turns out these are what she used on me as a baby.  I guess technology doesn't always win.   If I could go back, flats and flips are all I would buy.  Did I mention they are only $9 for 6 flats?  Can't beat that!
