2 week update and pictures

Here are some pics that I took of the big 2 week old!

Eli is still a great sleeper at night! Our only concern is that lately when he drinks a bottle he smacks on it, swallows a ton of air, and the milk dribbles out of his mouth all over the place. I started looking for a tongue tie that maybe was missed before and realized that his top lip is tied all the way to the bottom of his gums. It seems like certain bottles work better for him, but we're bringing him to an ENT to see what they have to say about his eating/breathing. Hopefully it will be an easy fix!

Eli's first week at home

Eli is such a great baby, we are so very lucky. He sleeps the entire night with the exception of a couple feedings. He goes right back to sleep after eating and is just a content little guy. During the day loves to be held, but I love it too. The hospital gave us a Halo Sleepsack Swaddle that is made out of fleece. He loves that thing. As soon as we wrap him up, stick a hat on him, he is just out like a light. We bought another one as a back up because I'm not sure what we'd do without it!

Rylie helped give him his first bath, which she absolutely loved. She hasn't been able to touch him much due to both her and Cole having colds, so I figured a bath was the best way for her to help and prevent any negativity towards him.

We had a few visitors so far. Sandy and Great Grandma came to visit, as well as Grandma and Grandpa Case and Jayda. Eli loves being held so he is loving the attention from everyone.
I took him in for his newborn check up on Friday (5 days old) and he was back up to his birth weight of 7lbs 50z! He's currently on mostly formula and I'm pumping as much milk as I can give him, but for right now that isn't much. Either way, he's happy and healthy. :) Tomorrow he has his next check up.

I started noticing that after just 2 hours his diaper was soaked and his clothes were getting wet. This was really hard at night so I decided to switch him to his cloth diapers. I absolutely love them! He can go 3-4 hours at night in the same diaper and no leaking. Such a life saver!

Our first outing with Eli was a trip to Target on Nov 18th. He slept almost the whole time and woke up to eat right at the end. Of course I snapped a picture.
The next day we also went to Applebees and again, he slept almost the whole time and had to eat right before we left.

Today we tried out the "Sleepy Wrap" to see how he liked it and he ended up sleeping there for 2 hours. It was wonderful because I got a ton of cleaning done and cuddle time with him at the same time. We'll for sure be using that again!

Eli is here!

On 11/12/11 I started having contractions at 3pm. They were growing stronger no matter what position I was in so I was very hopeful it was the real thing finally. We called Grandma Score and then the doctor, gathered our things, and headed to the hospital.

When we arrived the contractions were about 3 minutes apart and moderate in strength. When checked, I was still 2-3cm dilated and about 70% effaced. Eli's heart rate was a little high, so they monitored him until it went down to a normal level. Once he evened out we started walking the hallways. During the hour we were walking, I moved up to a full 3cm and was in a lot more pain. We came back to the room and during that time the nurse monitored Eli once again and then sent me on my way to walk some more since the contractions were only about 2 minutes apart and staying strong. We walked for another hour. By then end of that hour the contractions were so strong that I couldn't talk through them. The nurse assured me that I would be staying to have a baby because the pain was so intense. She checked me, and I was at 4cm. She quickly got the anesthesiologist into the room for my epidural (about 10pm) which gave me almost immediate pain relief. Once the epidural was in, my blood pressure dropped really low and I needed a shot of ephedrine to bring it back up.

At 11:00 the doctor came in the check me and broke my water. There was meconium so she
talked to us about the special care nursery coming in during delivery and what to expect right when he was born.

Around 1am I was 5 to 6 cm.
Around 2am I was 7cm.
By about 2:30 in the morning I noticed that the pain was coming back. All the sudden I could feel the contractions on my right side and pressure. I had the nurse come check me and sure enough, 10cm! It was huge relief to hear that, because the pain was unbearable and I needed to push at that moment. They quickly got the room ready for delivery and called the doctor.

I pushed through 1 1/2 contractions (just 5 pushes) and Eli was born. His cord was wrapped twice around his neck which was likely the cause for meconium. He immediately began to cry and the special care team grabbed him and began cleaning his lungs out. After what seemed like forever because I couldn't see him, they brought him to me and said he's perfectly healthy! No issues have resulted from the meconium or the cord around his neck.

He was 7lbs 5 oz and 20 inches long, so the same weight as Rylie, but half an inch shorter.

We were instantly in love. He looks just like Cole and Rylie :)

39 week appointment

Went in today for my 39 week appointment (39 weeks and 3 days to be exact) and I'm almost 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. He said he gives me a 65% chance of going into labor in the next week. He told me the same thing with Rylie at 39 weeks and I went into labor 3 days later. Let's hope he's right again!

I've been having so much false labor lately. Starting on Friday I've had pretty regular, painful contractions that last the majority of the day and die off at night. It's really exhausting! I'm ready to be done and meet this new little baby of ours!

Happy Halloween!

38 week appointment

After 36 long hours of contractions over the weekend, I am now 2 cm dilated and almost completely effaced. This could be labor any moment, or several days so I'm trying to go get my hopes up too high. Next appointment is on 11/9, but I'm hoping I'm no longer pregnant by then. :)

Rylie's 4th Birthday!!

Rylie is FOUR! It's hard to believe, but she is already a big 4 year old! We had a party on Saturday to celebrate with family and she had a blast.

On Sunday, her actual birthday, we took her to the mall because she decided to get her ears pierced! We always told her that it was up to her if she wanted them pierced and she's always said "When I'm four." Well, the day she turned 4 she wanted them pierced so off we went ;) She did awesome and didn't even cry! She's now the proud owner of some pretty purple flower earrings!

37 weeks, FULL TERM!

Just got back from my 37 week check up and even though I contracted regularly every 3 min last night for 2 hours straight, I'm still on 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. I was hoping for more, but I guess Eli just wanted to make sure Matt was back from this business trip before he comes out. :)

School conferences and 36 week check up!

Today was Cole's conference with his kindergarten teacher. He's doing great! He tries hard, follows the rules, and is the highest reading and math groups in his grade. By the end of kindergarten they should be at a level 3 for reading. He's already at level 8. We knew he's a smarty pants, but wow! His teacher had nothing but good stuff to say about him, so we're very proud as always :)
Here is his kindergarten school photo

Aside from most likely being dehydrated, everything seems to be going well with the pregnancy. I'm about a cm dilated and 50% effaced. This Sunday I'll be 37 weeks which is considered full term! Tomorrow I go in for a biophysical profile to make sure my dehydration hasn't caused any problems for Eli.

I need to make a post with pictures from our 3d ultrasound still. It was back around 30 weeks, but I just keep forgetting to add them here.

Lots of firsts!

Last night I saw my belly move on it's own for the first time! Then Matt was also able to feel Eli moving for the first time!! After all that, I went to bed and then felt hiccups for the first time too! I guess he really wanted to make his presence known.

I had my 20 week checkup with my doctor yesterday as well. The baby's heart rate was 160. The doctor said everything with the ultrasound looked right where it needs to be. His head and bone measurements are exact for my due date, but his belly is measuring a week ahead. This could mean that he's a little chubby, or that the measurements were just off at the ultrasound. I guess we'll find out in a few months when we meet the little guy. :)

It's a BOY!!

Yesterday we went in for the big 19 week ultrasound and found out that the baby is a boy! Cole is thrilled, Rylie is a little sad, but once he's here I know she'll love him. ;)

Eli Patrick's first photo shoot:
The ultrasound itself was a little rocky. He was hiding his face the whole time, but wasn't shy about his gender. His body was looking towards my back which made it impossible to get the pictures she needed. The technician had to tilt the table backwards so my head was towards the ground- let me tell you that is NOT comfortable when you have low blood pressure to start with. Then I had to drink more water, empty my bladder, walk and move around, and they still had to do a vaginal ultrasound to attempt getting good pictures. Finally, after all that we went back to the regular ultrasound and I felt him flip. She finally got all the measurements she needed and he measured right at 19 weeks 1 day, just as my original due date suggests.

Mess? Yes please!

Crayola Color Bubbles are FUN! :)

Mark this day down in history...

On Sunday night Cole coughed his little head off the whole night. I figured I should take him to the doctor instead of waiting and having him miss his LAST WEEK OF PRESCHOOL. Exciting stuff, but that's a whole other post. I took him to the doc and he does have a severe ear infection. That is extremely rare for Cole. I think he's been on antibiotics maybe 3 or 4 times total in his entire life. Pretty good for an almost 5 year old if you ask me! Now he's on some medicine and is on the road to recovery. :) You would never know he is sick other than the coughing at night. He's running around playing like there is nothing wrong. Doesn't even have ear pain!

Meanwhile, Rylie had the same cold as him and it lasted a couple days. She fought it off with no asthma issues! :)

Easter 2011

For Easter this year Jayda and Grandma and Grandpa Case came over to dye eggs. We all had so much fun and made some beautiful eggs :)

The next day we found that the Easter Bunny left some nice treats for the kids!

After checking out baskets and church, went over to Grandma Score's to celebrate Easter with Matt's side of the family. We had an Easter Egg Hunt and some good food. :)
