Grand Rios!

We decided to take a little vacation since with Matt's current job he can't take any time off this summer. We decided to stay over night at the Grand Rios waterpark in Brooklyn Park.

We got up on Thursday morning and packed our things. We headed out to lunch at Fridays and then to the Eden Prairie Mall to let the kids play in the play area until we could check into the hotel at 4pm. The kids had a lot of fun at the mall even though the play area was packed full of kids!

We got to the hotel at about 3:00 and checked in early. We unloaded the car and got ready to go swimming! The kids took a few minutes to warm up to the whole thing. There was a lot to take in so they observed for a little bit before diving into the water. There was a huge dump bucket that poured water over a huge portion of the park every few minutes. They were very nervous about this dump bucket and stayed away from it. Cole loved the water slides and everything about the park. Rylie was cold and shivering most of the time, but still managed to have fun.

After a couple hours we went back to the hotel room, showered, and left for dinner at Old Country Buffet! We all stuffed ourselves with junk food. After all, it was a vacation. :) Rylie had two full plates of food and managed to eat most of it!

When we got back to the hotel we got the kids ready for bed and tucked them in. Cole fell asleep after about an hour and Rylie took 2 hours. Matt and I stayed up playing cards til after they were asleep. Rylie was just took excited to fall asleep so I had to go lay by her and make sure she stayed laying down. This was their first time sleeping in bed with us, and they did pretty well! Both kids slept past 7:30am so we were happy!

We got up, ate some cereal and loaded up the car. We checked out of the hotel and went swimming at the waterpark again. This time both kids had a blast and loved swimming in the big pool. They had life jackets on and Cole swam without us holding on to him! Rylie did too a few times but as soon as she realized I let go of her she flipped out! :) We think we'll get them in swimming lessons now so they stay comfortable in the water.

We headed home and enjoyed the rest of the day together. It was a great mini-vacation!

Spring Visited Minnesota!

Spring visited us for a bit but decided to leave again. We spent the last week outside and had a blast. It was a just enough to make us extra anxious for summer! The kids and I also took a trip to the Chaska Community Center and went swimming. We all had so much fun! Uncle Nate visited, and we spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa Case's. Here are a few pictures of the fun we had in the last week.

New doc, pneumonia, and relief

I called the new clinic to see if I could get Rylie in to see a doctor Friday. Her cough progressed throughout the day and by her 11:30 appointment, she was coughing non-stop!
The doctor listened to her history a bit and looked over her file. I told her that I feared it might be pneumonia again since it sounded similar to last time. The doc listened to her lungs and all sounded clear. She wanted to double check with an xray to be sure.
Sure enough, the x-ray came back and she had fluid in the right lung again, just like last time. I explained to her that her old doctor never gave her xrays. He listened to her lungs, said they sound fine, and would send us on our way to listen to her cough non stop for a week.
The new doc explained that kids like this need an extra steroid outside of pulmicort (her daily steroid) when they get really sick. She said parents are the best judge and if we think something isn't going right she'll do everything she can to figure out what it is. This is SUCH an amazing feeling for me. I spent 2 years arguing with Rylie's doctor. He always said she was fine, but I KNEW she wasn't. I'm wondering how many times (there have been 5-6 times that have been this bad) starting at 2 months old that she had pneumonia and it went undiagnosed and untreated because he never listened to what I was saying. Her lungs ALWAYS sound clear as she doesn't wheeze like most kids with asthma. The only reason she was diagnosed with Pneumonia last time was that he was off that day and she went to a different doctor. That doctor heard a little crackle and said the fever that started several days after a cold was a good indication of infection. Her normal doctor even had the nerve to tell me that his colleague was wrong and she did not have pneumonia- that crackle was just her asthma.
The new pediatrician is a breath of fresh air for me, and literally for Rylie. She wrote out a prescription for an antibiotic and another steroid to get her lungs back to normal. She made me feel welcome and said we're doing what is right for Rylie in seeking more meds. She said she also doesn't dance around the "asthma" word. She'll use it, because right now, Rylie has it. Maybe she'll out grow it, but maybe not.

Rylie had a really rough night Friday. She fell asleep after an hour or so of coughing. She was able to sleep until about 4am and then was up for the day. We kept up with her nebs and she did improve a bit throughout the day, but she fell asleep for the night at 6pm. This was a combination of waking up at 4am and not being able to nap because she was coughing so hard.
Saturday night she slept from 6pm-4am without coughing! Matt got up with her and did her nebulizer treatments and then she went back to bed from 5-7am! It was awesome! Today she's been running around playing and has barely coughed at all. When she does cough it sounds horrible, but that is needed for her to cough all the junk out of her lungs.

Cole spent the weekend at Grandma and Grandpa Case's house. He came down with a cold Friday night and was up for an hour coughing. They got him back to sleep and Saturday was much better for him. He definitely has a cold, but he sounds like he is having a blast. They are keeping him until Monday morning because I am really sick as well. I've had a sore throat for a few days and Saturday night I completely lost my voice. I was only able to whisper until this morning. I slept 11 hours last night so that felt amazing! Today I have a full blown cold, something I haven't had in about a year! Lately I've been so lucky to kick colds out of my system within a couple days, so lets hope this one follows suit and goes away soon!

Here are some pictures of my goofy girl this weekend. You'd never guess she was so sick by the way she's playing. :)

Love my kids dearly but wow do they have bad timing

This weekend the kids were supposed to go to Grandma Case's Friday-Sunday morning. We were ALL excited about it. This, of course, means that Rylie needed to come down with a cold again. She's had a constant cold for months that clears up for about a week and then comes back. Now she's coughing really hard and seemed really uncomfortable last night. The cough itself sounds pretty similar to when she had pneumonia, so I'm fearful of that being the case. The cough is MUCH less frequent, so I'm hoping it's just a cold bugging her asthma.

We really can't seem to catch a break this year. I checked the calendar and there have only been 2 weeks in the year 2010 so far that none of us were sick. That was last week (although her cold did start Friday), and one in January. Now here were are on March 5th still sick. I know it is for the best for them to get sick now versus kindergarten. I'm sure I'll be thankful that they aren't so sick once school starts, but it isn't much fun getting to that point! I really hoped that staying home with them would help, but we go out of the house a few times a week to play with other kids, so the sickness just continues. I really wouldn't change that though. They are kids and need freedom to play and learn. Keeping them cooped up at home wouldn't help them in the long run. So now I will be putting my chin up and spending the weekend getting my little girl back to normal.

Ralph's World!!

For a little background, when Cole was a baby we bought him a DVD called Ralph's World. It's a kids dvd with a guy singing some silly songs.
Lately I've been going to Toddler Tuesday at Mall of America with my friend Amy and the little girl she nanny's, Addie. This week we met my friend Jessie and her kids Matt and Katie, plus some of her friends as well.
This weeks theme was "The Potty Dance" sponsored by Huggies Pull Ups. I wasn't sure what to expect but went and hoped for the best. I knew Ralph from Ralph's World was on the tv commercials with Pull Ups "Potty Dance" but I wasn't sure if he would actually be at MOA or if it would be some people giving out info and teaching the kids the dance. We got there and were 2nd in line just in time for the sound check. Turns out, not only was it really Ralph, but he played all the songs from our DVD as well!
They passed out all sorts of things for the kids. They gave little boys black hats, bow ties, and maracas (the first two Cole wanted NOTHING to do with). They gave little girls tutus and fairy wands to wear and some feather boas.
Towards the end of the show, Ralph called for kids to go up on stage to be in a rock band. The kids wanted to go so I brought them up there. Cole was happy about it, but was very serious the whole time. He stood there with a serious look on his face and shook his maraca through 2 songs. Rylie immediately cried so I had to go get her. I took some pictures and videos of them up there. At the end of the 2nd song Cole tapped the guitarist on the side. When he bent down, Cole pointed to me and said "That's my mom." It was so cute! The guy just laughed. Cole is never too shy to talk to anybody!
We had lots of fun and even got a free pack of pull ups and some cds/dvds as well. It was by far the best Toddler Tuesday we've been to, although Cole might tell you meeting Dora was the best one. :)
Next week at TT is Yo Gabba Gabba, one of Nickelodeon's EXTREMELY annoying shows. I know it will be torture for me, but the kids love it so we'll give it a go. Hopefully I'll survive the torture! Wish me luck!
