Christmas
Cole is just starting to do so much all the sudden! Yesterday he picked up his pacifier two different times and put it in his own mouth. He is getting so much more independent!

He had a very good first Christmas. He got lots of toys, books, and new clothes. :)
On Christmas Eve we got together with Grandma Score, Liz, and Dan to open presents. We ate lunch over there and then went to my parents house. We all went to Church together, came home, opened presents, then ate dinner. On Monday we went back over to Grandma and Grandpa Case's house and just spent some time with them for a little bit. We had colds so we had to skip out on brunch with Great Grandma and Grandpa. Later we went over to Matt's aunt's house and opened presents and ate dinner.
Cole helped open his presents a little but was more interested in the paper than the presents. He got a few favorite toys. He is amazed with this Winnie the Pooh toy that my mom got him. Pooh is sitting on a turtle and when the baby shakes a rattle, it makes the turtle walk. While the turtle walks, Pooh sings a little song. Cole controls it and just LOVES it. When Pooh stops going, Cole shakes the rattle and makes him go! When I first heard about this toy I didn't think Cole would be able to make it go, but sure enough, he does! He also got a push walker from Nate that can also just be a toy that you sit up and play with. He really seems to enjoy that. He'll sit and play with it for a very long time. He enjoys most of his other toys too, but those seems to be his favorite.
We went to Ikea a couple days ago and bought a big shelf for his room. We didn't have anywhere to put all these new toys. The shelf helped a lot. Now his toys are all organized and our house is much less of a mess. :)

Cole can sit up!
We are saying that, as of yesterday, Cole can sit up! It is a gradual process of course, but yesterday he sat up by himself several times for several minutes. It is sooooo nice!! He sits up and plays all by himself now. :)

Correction
Actually, Matt got it a little wrong. Cole doesn't like video games. In fact, he gets upset when his daddy plays them and doesn't play with him! So no Nintendo or X Box for Cole.
Cole is all the sudden getting all over the place. I have to finish baby proofing the house because Cole is getting into stuff already. He rolls around the room and scoots backwards to get to things that he wants.
I graduated now so I get to have Cole with me everyday. I just love it!! Nannying has been going great and Cole likes the kids so he seems fine with the change. Yesterday he went to Grandma's and looked around like he had never been there before. :( I'm a little worried that he is going to get too used to me being with him 24/7 so I'm gonna start having people babysit to keep him used to it.
We are all really looking forward to Cole's first Christmas. We already had the DeRusha Christmas party last weekend. He enjoyed seeing his friend Aiden. They are continuing the cheek competition as you can see in the picture.. Aiden seems to have passed Cole up in size and he is two months younger!! Aiden is going to be a big boy! Cole has slowed down in growing quite a bit. He hasn't gained much the last two months. He has a doctor's apt next week so we'll update with the new stats.. I know you are just on the edge of your seat to find out!

In Calgary :-(
I'm in Calgary for a business trip so this will be the longest I've ever been away from Cole! :-( Jessa's staying at her parents' house because it's closer to her work. From what I hear, he's been pretty good. He's been rolling over like crazy lately; I think he is even more than he wants to. Whenever he gets mad, he rolls over to his stomach, and then cries more--especially in the crib. However, he's been a much happier baby since he's started to roll over. He sleeps MUCH better. The last month has been really difficult on Jessa because he's been waking up more than normal, but now that he sleeps on his stomach, he basically sleeps through the night again.

I forgot to mention in the last entry that in addition to the toys and clothes that he wants for Christmas, he would also VERY much enjoy gift cards to Best Buy, a Nintendo Wii, or an XBox 360.

Jessa graduates this Friday! Yay! She only has ONE more day of student teaching, and then she is done forever. Whew! She would also love some Best Buy gift cards, a Nintendo Wii, or an XBox 360 for graduation gifts.

Almost 5 months!
Geeze, how time does fly! Tomorrow, Cole will be 5 months old. Right now, he has a cold, but it's not a bad one. It just makes him cough a little more and makes his nose a little stuffy. Otherwise, he's happy as can be. Especially since he just started rolling over from back to front. He rolled over from front to back the Monday before Thanksgiving at Great Grandma and Grandpa Hawley's. Then on Tuesday of this week, he rolled over from back to front for the first time! Before that, he'd get 90% there, and then couldn't get past his arm.

Jessa's mom got him a Santa hat, so he's all ready for the Christmas season. We just put our Christmas tree up and our lights out onto our balcony so we're all ready too.

Oh yeah. If you aren't getting the Snapfish pictures that we're sending out, just let me know. Jessa's actually the one who sends them out, but she sends them from my Snapfish account. She only sends them to people in her email address book, so if she doesn't have your email address, she doesn't send them to you. However, if you just let me know, I'll be sure to let her know so we get them to you! Sorry if we missed you before--it wasn't intentional.

I know a lot of people are asking about Christmas presents for Cole too. Just get him whatever you think it appropriate. Cole has plenty of stuffed animals, though. QUIET toys are always good! As for clothes, right now he's wearing 9 month clothes. It shouldn't be long before he makes his way into 12 month clothes (which will probably be by the time he's 6 months old). Nothing ugly though, ok?!

Cole's First Thanksgiving
Cole had a great first Thanksgiving. He is getting used to being around family and getting held constantly. He did great! He even tried some mashed potatoes but hated them. As soon as they went in his mouth he screamed until I took them out of his mouth. Guess he's not ready for that yet! He is eating just about every baby food (available for first foods) now. He likes them all except peas. He gags on peas and spits them out. They aren't as aweful as mashed potatoes to him, but they are pretty bad.
He also attended his first day after Thanksgiving cookie baking session. He did great there as well. He enjoyed the attention and everyone liked having him around for entertainment.

4 month check up
Cole had his 4 month check up on Monday. He was 17 lbs 6 oz on Monday. He was in the 93rd percentile for weight and 50th for height so he is a fatty!! I like to call him fat baby. He eats a normal amount so we are not concerned. He got a clean bill of health and got 3 shots. He had a low fever all day yesterday but seems to be back to normal today.
He has been getting really good at sitting with help. If I sit behind him or if I put the boppy pillow around him he sits up and plays for a few minutes at a time. He is really starting to like playing with his toys and grabs at everything in sight. He LOVES my parents' dog Penelope because she licks his hands. When he sees her, he reaches out for her to lick him. He laughs really hard every time she does.
He still sleeps through the night and is a great baby! :)

Hola!
Cole's over 4 months old now! Whoa! At least he looks it! When I was 5 months old I was 11 pounds! Cole's somewhere around 18 pounds, so he's one and a half of me. We bought him a jumper a couple weeks ago, and he loves it. It's so funny to watch him get all excited and jump around in it. Plus, now when we put him in his exersaucer, he tries jumping. He's slowed down in growing a little bit, so that's good. We can't have him growing too fast! We'll know more officially next monday when he has his 4 month checkup.

Umm.... that's about it. I probably won't update anything soon because my hard drive crashed. I'm in the lofty process of re-creating everything on my computer. At least I had everything backed up.

Cole's first Halloween!

Haircut!!
Cole's hair has been falling out like crazy all over his head except for the very top. The top was long and funny looking so we decided to give him a haircut. Matt trimmed the top so it is the length of the rest and it looks very cute!!
Tomorrow Cole is staying home and Grandma Score is coming over to watch him. My parents are out of town visiting a sick family member. When they were traveling yesterday Jayda got a really high fever. They gave her some tylenol and she seemed fine after. She was playing and all the sudden climbed up in my mom's lap and started having a seisure. They were all VERY scared. My aunt called 911 and they sent out an ambulance. She was taken to the doctor and they said that it was caused by her fever. Jayda just got 5 shots last week and has had a fever on and off sense then. The doctor just said that some people react that way to shots and get bad fevers worse than most. Jayda is one of them. They have her taking tylenol and motrin consistantly until they get home from Wisconsin on Tuesday and then she needs to see her regular doctor. We are hoping that the seisure was just from the high temp and nothing else. They will have to run tests to find out for sure. Pretty scary!
On a happier note- Cole has finally been on an eating schedule. He gets about 30 oz a day of formula and has baby food and cereal once a day. It is much easier now that he is on a schedule. I'm also happy that he is eating just 30 oz a day. He was taking almost 40 oz a day and it seemed like too much, so it is a relief that he is slowing down. He is growing like crazy though. He's wearing mostly 6-9 months clothes and a few things that are 12 months.
He's calling!! Gotta go!

4 day weekend!
Cole and I get to stay home together today and tomorrow. It is MEA at school this week so we have some time off. It is great getting to stay home with Cole again. I love it soooo much! Cole has been making some new noises today. They are cute little random squeals. All I have to do is look at him and he squeals. He's just too cute. He has become a pro in his exersaucer. He jumps around like crazy in it. He's still doing good on his baby food. He has cut out a whole bottle since we started him on it. That was what we were hoping would happen. He hasn't been pigging out as much now. For a little while I was getting concerned that he was over eating. I think he's doing pretty good now that we started the baby food. Tomorrow I'll try giving him some sweet potatos and see how that goes.

Sever's Corn Maze
Yesterday, we went to Sever's Corn Maze down in Shakopee. It was lots of fun. We watched the pig races, went on a hay ride, played in the corn pit, got lost in the maze, and watched Jakob and Jayda ride the ponies and play in the kid's maze. Oh yeah--we also ate lots of greasy food! Cole liked being out and about, as usual. He slept a lot of the time (which is funny because we were pushing him on very bumpy ground and it was quite noisy). However, once he was up, he loved it. He always likes being in public; he looks back and forth constantly watching the action. We got quite a few good pictures that I will post soon.

On Saturday, we gave him his first bites of baby food! Pears! Mmm... He did exceptionally well with them. He didn't quite know what to do with it at first, but he ate half the container. We decided to start giving him some baby food because he's turning into a fatty! We figure it will help fill him up without all the calories from the formula.

Overall, he's doing really well. He's still sleeping through the night and doesn't fuss much at all. Babies are easy!

sick day
I stayed home with Cole today because I'm sick. I didn't want to use a sick day already but I felt pretty crappy. My eye was swollen and I've been on and off with a cold for a couple weeks. I went to the doctor today and it is a sinus infection. The medicine they gave me is helping though.
It has been REALLY nice staying home with Cole today . I miss getting to be home with him during the day. He is just so fun. I can't wait for December :)
Cole has been eating 7 oz every 3 and a half hours lately. He's a piggy! People are always commenting on how big and strong he is for his age.
Oh pew.. gotta go change a diaper!

3 Months!
Cole is three months old today! It is strange, it seems like he has been here for much longer than three months. He is getting really strong now. He completely supports his own head, pushes up when you lay him on his stomach, and likes to stand and play in his exersaucer. His is amazingly verbal now. It seems like he babbles non-stop. Oh and of course, he's very cute. :)

September 2006

Long weekend!
We had a very nice weekend. It was really full of fun stuff, but also exhausting. Friday night we were celebrating birthdays at Grandma Score's. Then we went to Sherri's for a little get together on Grandpa DeRusha's side of the family. Saturday Cole and I went shopping with Grandma Case and then Matt, Cole, and I went to Great Grandma DeRusha's for another little get together. Sunday was Cole's Baptism and then reception after that. It was great seeing everyone. Cole didn't seem to think so though. He was very fussy all weekend which isn't like him at all. He usually just doesn't fuss unless he is hungry or very tired. I think I know why now. He woke up every half hour last night coughing and fussing. He seems very uncomfortable like he has a cold. I have a cold now too so I'm sure that is why Cole has been so crabby this weekend. He was coming down with something. I had to get him up in the night and put him in his infant seat so he could sleep more upright. He was coughing too much laying down in his crib, so then he finally slept. Poor little guy has his first cold. Hopefully he gets over it fast.

His 2 month checkup
Yesterday, Cole had his two month checkup. It went really well. He's healthy and growing like a weed! He's now 24 1/4 inches long which is in the 95th percentile, he weighs 13 pounds 11 ounces which is in the 90th percentile, and his head is 40 1/2 inches around which is in the 65th percentile. That's a big difference from being in the 25th percentile for weight and 50th percentile for length before! And he's Asian! Aren't Asians supposed to be short?

He also got his first shots yesterday. He cried less than a minute and then he was back to his old smiley self again. He got a fever today (most likely from the shots) so we gave him some Tylenol and he's been much happier since.

Anyway, he's still doing much better on his soy formula, so we're keeping him on that. :-)

Labor day weekend
The rest of the week went better for Cole. He slept through the night again. I started putting him in his crib to sleep at night because I was waking him up in the morning when I got up to get ready. So now he is adjusted and is sleeping in his own room! He does pretty good in there :) and he seems to need his pacifier less.

We decided to switch Cole to soy formula because he has been spitting up a ton the last few weeks. We had to keep a bib on him every moment that he was awake to avoid ruining his clothes. He's been on the new formula all day and is doing much better. He still spits up a little, but soooooooo much less. It is a relief! Cole just keeps getting easier as we figure the little guy out!

We had a really nice long and relaxing weekend. We got the chance to see both the Case and Score grandparents so that was nice. Cole likes the attention :) I'm not really ready to go back to school tomorrow though. It is really hard to be away from Cole all day. It makes the days very long. I don't have much to do while I'm at school either so it makes for a very long and boring day. I'm counting the days til December 15th when I graduate.

First week at Grandma's
I started student teaching so Cole now goes to Grandma Case's everyday. The first few days worked out well. Cole woke up at 5, I fed him, got him dressed, and put him back down for a nap. Then he'd sleep until we got to Grandma's. Today was different. He woke up at 3, then 4, then 4:20 so I finally fed him. He ate and then decided that he was up for the day at 4:40. My alarm was set for 5:30 so it was hard to be up that early. After 20 minutes of him laying around fussing, I put him in bed with me and now he's still sleeping. It'll be nights like this that will be hard during student teaching. I'm just glad that he sleeps through the night almost every night.
Cole pooped on Grandma yesterday.. she was changing his diaper and he decided to poop all over her hand. Better her than me! He's been doing good over there as always. Jayda is starting to get used to him being there and says "uh oh mama" if he starts crying. She knows his name and named her boy baby doll Cole. She kisses his feet and seems to like him. Jakob is yet to be thrilled with him. He starts Kindergarten next week!!! I might see if I can observe his class later in the semester. I have to do 2 observations for student teaching. Well, I gotta finish getting ready for school.

Last day at home :(
Today is my last week day at home with Cole. I'm very sad!!!! I start student teaching on Monday and I'm not quite ready to be away from Cole all day yet. I'll have to deal with it, but it will be hard. I'm trying to go into it with a positive attitude though. Hopefully time will pass quickly and I can go back to being with my baby most of the time!

More progress
Cole is continuing to make more progress. Two days ago, he started making his baby cooing noises. He's been getting in really good moods where if we talk to him, he'll start "talking" and smiling back to us. It's really cute! He also (finally) likes his play mat thingy that we bought him that hangs over his head. We lay him down on the mat now, and he'll stare and smile at the hanging toys over his head. Before, he'd act like they weren't even there. I figure that his vision just got better so he can see more clearly or more colors or something.

On Saturday, we took Cole to the zoo with Jessa's parents, Jayda, and Jakob. That was a lot of fun. Cole and Jayda actually slept through most of it, but it was still fun. The Minnesota Zoo finally got their Africa portion setup (it wasn't last year), and it looks awesome. Giraffes, Zebras, Tigers, etc. I didn't see any elephants or lions, but maybe some day... Anyway, I'll try to get some pictures of the zoo up sometime.

Updates
My dad actually got out of the hospital today and is doing great! The surgery was quick and he doesn't seem to be in too much pain. He is MUCH better than yesterday. Cole had a low fever today but seemed to get over it quickly with no medicine. I'm really glad that it didn't get any higher. He was cranky at the time but that ended pretty fast. He was all smiles when Daddy came home (as always). :)
Cole's great grandpa got out of the hospital today too!! It turned out to be a pretty good day after all :)

Bad day continued...
Matt ended up getting sick too. He had some stomach pain and a fever last night and today both of us have upset stomachs.
My dad is getting his gall bladder taken out today because they found a stone. They say he should be out of the hospital tomorrow.
8/15/2006 3:50:49 PM
Bad Day :-(
Today, I had to stay home from work because Jessa woke up with over a 103 degree fever. On top of that, we found out that Cole has Thrush, which is a yeast inside of his mouth; this is actually fairly common in newborns. It looks like a thick white coating. It seems to have gotten irritating for Cole, but we called the Doc yesterday and we got some medicine for his mouth. Luckily it looks like it's getting better already. Dad found out that he can only make it for about 4 days in September and has to go back the day after the baptism. Since he has to fly, that means Alex, Greg, Nick, Maggie, and Kari can't come. Now we just found out that Jessa's dad is in the hospital with some stomach pains. We're waiting around waiting to see where that's going to go. My grandpa is still in the hospital with pneumonia. He's getting better and is off oxygen, but is still very weak after he has any physical activity. We're hoping to have him home sometime this week.

Anyway, that's today. Not fun.

Sleep!
Cole slept through the night for the last three nights! It has been great getting a full night's sleep. He's sleeping about 7 hours at a time at night. Last night I didn't even give him his last feeding (which consists of cereal and a bottle) because he was so tired. I figured he'd wake up in the night to eat but he didn't. :)
My doctor's appointment went fine. I'm fully recovered! It is nice being back to my old self. Now I'm just working on getting rid of the rest of this baby weight. 15 more pounds to go!
8/10/2006 12:17:12 PM
Oink, Oink!
Our son has turned into quite the pig! There are periods where he wants to eat 5 oz every 90 minutes. Overall, he's pretty close to 40 oz of formula every day. Ummm...yeah, that's a lot. He's even onto a stage 2 nipple. Basically, he's eating as much as a 6 month old, so we've started giving him cereal a couple times per day to help curb his hunger; he does very well with it. To give you an idea, he should be eating 2-3 oz daily for every pound he weighs. So he should be eating between 22-33 oz, not 40!

Jessa weighed him recently and he's now about 11 pounds, so he is gaining weight quickly! All that food is going to good use! He's still sleeping a fair amount. In fact, last night he went about 7 hours until he needed more food! So he's getting lots of food, pooping and peeing a normal amount (about 8 diapers/day), and he's sleeping plenty.

Yesterday, Jessa's aunt, uncle, and cousins came from Wisconsin to visit their two newest family members--Jayda and Cole. Jayda has been doing very well. She doesn't seem to play much with the other kids, but she's not afraid of them either. Cole got to spend most of his day in his Grandma Case's arms, so he got all the attention he wanted. I was surprised that Cole was able to sleep through the night last night since he slept most of the day yesterday.

Jessa has her doctor's appointment today for a checkup to make sure she's healing alright. She's hoping to get a green light so she can go swimming tomorrow.

July 2006

Cole has another aunt!
We had a big weekend. Saturday my parents came back from China with Jayda. She is adorable! Matt and I got to play with her and she bonded with us quickly. We had to leave shortly after we got home with them because Matt's cousin Nichole was having a baby shower. We went to the shower and introduced Cole to the DeRusha side of the family. It was outdoors and very hot so we didn't get to stay for very long before Cole got crabby from being hot. Then we went back to my parents house and played with Jayda some more. She got really attached to Matt. She followed him around and sat right next to him on the couch. She also put her hands out for him to hold her a lot. She cried again when we left which was very sad!!!

Sunday was Auntie Jane's birthday party so we got to show Cole off some more. He was passed around the whole time and he loved being held non-stop.

Last night Matt's mom came over and babysat while we went to see a movie. We saw Lady in the Water. It was good and I actually didn't worry about Cole! It was our first time leaving him with anyone but it went well. I weighed Cole last night and he is 10 lbs!!! He's growing so fast! His clothes that were way too big at birth are starting to fit.

Gaining Weight!
Cole is now 3 weeks old and has been gaining weight quickly. We weighed him from home today and he was 9lbs! He is now eating more too. Today the little piggy ate 4 oz every 3 hours (or less). This is a lot more than he's ever eaten in one day. So far he's had 28 oz and a typical day he usually has about 22. He's even working on another 4 oz bottle as I type this!

Saturday night Cole slept for 6 hours without a peep! I jumped out of bed in the morning because I was scared that he wasn't breathing since it had been so long since he ate.

He has blisters on his lips from sucking all day. I read that it is normal in newborns and goes away on it's own after a month or 2. It doesn't cause them any discomfort (according to the book) but it sure looks painful!

-Jessa

Two Weeks!
Cole's checkup went well. He was up to 7lbs 12oz on Monday. By now he should weigh more than he did at birth! He's eating 3-4 oz about every 3-4 hours so he is right on track. He's been sleeping VERY well at night the last couple of nights. I think he might like his crib more than the basinet. We are at my parents for a couple of weeks while they are in China, so there is no basinet here. He's been sleeping the whole night except for 1 or 2 feedings. He goes back to sleep right after he eats (which is wonderful) and then sleeps for about 4 more hours!!
Cole is a really easy baby :)
His umbilical cord fell out today. I'm glad because I was sick of looking at that gross thing! Now he has a cute lil belly button. I'm excited to give him his first real bath tomorrow!

One week old!
I'm back at work, and I miss him horribly! That's probably why I'm looking at his website from work. Ha! He's doing VERY good! Cole has a checkup this afternoon at 2:30 to get weighed again and to make sure that he's doing well.

I think Cole's getting cuter by the day, but that might just be my imagination! We looked at other pictures of babies on GrowingFamily.com and we BY FAR have the cutest baby! You can search for different babies at Fairview Ridges from this URL:

He's back!!
Cole had another appointment today and he is 7 lbs 9 oz!! He is back up to the weight that he was when we left the hospital. The doctor said that the scale yesterday must have been off because it would be impossible for him to gain that much weight in a day. He did gain weight since Thursday when he was 7lbs even so we are very happy! I tried pumping all day yesterday and got an ounce of breast milk total for the entire day. It is pretty safe to say that I am just unable to breastfeed. Cole is doing great on formula and is gaining weight so we aren't too upset about not breastfeeding.
7/7/2006 7:29:45 PM
Weight Update
Today we found out that Cole lost more weight. He now weighs 6lbs 13oz. The doctor thinks that with the formula, his weight should go up by tomorrow. He was not more jaundice than yesterday, so we were very happy to hear that. Cole has been eating about every two hours now and seems to be very happy and content. Tomorrow we will go back to the dr and see if his what his weight is at. Let's hope it goes up!!

Oh, he also pooped 2 times today!! Finally!
7/6/2006 10:48:31 PM
Cole Thomas is here!
On Saturday, July 1st, I went into labor at 9 in the morning. I had contractions all day long but wasn't convinced that it was real labor. I was sick of getting my hopes up to find out that it was just false labor. We went about our day as usual. My parents and Jakob came over and we went swimming. The contractions continued so I called the doctor around 5:00 pm. He said I could go to the hospital if I wanted, so off we went! I was in a good deal of pain by that point. The nurse checked me and I was still 2cm and 70% effaced (the same as last thursday). We were not very happy to hear that after a whole day of labor. They monitored my contractions, which never really showed up (also very frustrating).

About an hour went by and the nurse checked me again. I had dilated another cm and was almost completely effaced. They assured me that I could stay! The contractions were VERY painful until about 11pm when I got an epidural. After that, I was pain free. I had no feeling or control of anything lower than my belly button. I was on pitocin to speed up the labor. They ended up breaking my water to put internal monitors on Cole since they contractions and his heart rate never showed up on the monitor. I basically laid in bed until a little after 6am when the nurse had me do some practice pushes. We did those and then relaxed and let Cole come down the birth canal himself. After doing some real pushes, Cole was almost ready to come out. I had to wait a while for the doctor to get to the hospital before I could push any more. Once the doctor got there, I pushed through 2 contractions and Cole was born!

He was 7 lbs 15oz and 21 inches (he's pretty cute too).

The first 2 days with Cole were a breeze. He woke up one or two times in the night to eat, but was content otherwise. We got 7-8 hours of sleep both nights! The next few days were a different story. Cole started to become cranky and seemed to get worse each day. At times he was un-consolable and thought our little guy was just a crabby baby.

Today we had a nurse come for a home visit and she found that Cole now only weighs 7 lbs. He has lost 15 oz since his birth, which is too much. We noticed earlier that Cole's mouth was very dry and he cried a lot after he ate. We came to the conclusion that I'm not producing much breast milk. I tried pumping today and sure enough, there was almost none. The poor little guy has been very hungry. He was also supposed to poop several times a day by now. He hasn't since he was born. The nurse also was concerned about his color. He seems a little yellow which is a sign of jaundice. She ran a test on him and found out that his is border-line jaundice. She said to feed him some formula after I breastfeed to make sure he is getting enough. We gave him his first bottle tonight and WOW. This is a different baby!! He is very happy and hasn't really cried at all. Tomorrow we have a doctor appointment for him and we'll find out how his weight is doing. Let's hope he stops losing weight and puts some meat on his bones!

I'll update tomorrow after his appointment.

Better News...
I just had my apt and I am now 2+ cm dialated and about 70% effaced. At least I made progress! The nurse did something called sweeping the membranes which sometimes speeds up labor, so we'll see! It is pretty much up to Cole at this point.

Strange...
Quick update.. I actually don't have a bladder infection. Another doctor looked at the results and he says I don't have one.. Who knows. I'm still taking a preventative antibiotic so I don't get any more infections.

The doctor apt today went fine. No news. Still 1 cm dialted, 50% effaced. Now we're just waiting for Cole to decide to come out!

I do have another bladder infection which I'm not very happy about. I'm anxious to not be pregnant anymore so I can stop having bladder infections!

Other than that, all is well.

Hello Everyone
Yesterday I had a doctors apt and found out that I am dilated 1 cm and am 50% effaced (meaning my cervix is half way thinned out). This is good news! I could be this way for weeks, but I'm happy to hear that it has at least started! Cole's head is right there so that is good news. Hopefully I keep progressing. I have been trying to stay active which is supposed to help make progress. Yesterday I swam for 2 hours and went on a really long walk with Matt. I'm gonna try to do that everyday.

Tuesday we had a breast feeding class.. Matt wasn't too excited to go, but I'm glad he did. I learned a lot about it and am a little less afraid to do it. This weekend we have labor and childbirth classes on Saturday and Sunday. I'm not looking forward to them because they will pretty much take up our whole weekend. But I'm sure that I'll feel better about everything after learning about it, so it should be worth it.

Well, that is all for now. I'll update again after my next apt (Wednesday).

Baby Shower!
Yesterday was our baby shower with family and some friends. We had a lot of fun and got a ton of baby stuff. We pretty much have everything we need now for Cole!! Now we are just sitting around waiting for him to come!

I've been having false labor a lot lately. On Thursday I had contractions for an hour that were five minutes apart. Then later that night I had them for an hour that were 10 minutes apart. I've had it happen a few times since then too and it is getting pretty old! I'm so anxious to actually go in labor that it is driving me crazy! Overall I'm pretty uncomfortable these days. I only sleep about 6 hours a night which is kind of hard to get used to. My body gets sore or I start having contractions so I end up just getting up. Hopefully I will have him early and get this over with! Anyway, that is about all for now.

June Already!
I had another doctors appointment on Friday. It went pretty much as expected. The doctor was really nice, we liked her a lot! I passed out while she was talking to me which was pretty scary, but I'm fine. I just don't do well when it is hot and they didn't have any air flowing in that room. They got me some ice water and put cold, wet rags on my body and I was better.
The doctor said that I should be taking an antibiotic once a day for the rest of the pregnancy. She said generally if you have 2 or more infections during a pregnancy, they will want you on one just to prevent another infection. I've been paranoid about getting another one so that is good. She also said that Cole is head down! Hopefully he'll stay that way now.

Tomorrow is my last day of work for the summer. I'm very much looking forward to getting more rest and just having a little time at home before he comes.

That is about it for now. I'll update more after the baby shower.

Hello again,

I just had another doctors apt and everything was great! The new clinic seems SOOOOO much better than the old one. The nurse practitioner and the nurse were both very nice and actually spent some time talking to us. It was a huge difference. They are checking to make sure that my bladder infection is gone. I'm not sure if I even updated in here when it happened, but I just had another UTI. I finished the antibiotics on Saturday but I've still been having some symptoms. So we'll find out today if it is gone.

We also found out that at the new hospital I'll have a private birthing room. I'm very happy about that. She said that Cole doesn't seem like he'll be too big. No more than 7 or 8 pounds was her guess. That is about it for now!

Mumbo Jumbo
As of now, there's not much to update. Cole's been moving a lot...mostly at night. Lots of times at night, Jessa and I will be sitting on the couch watching a movie, and then I'll look over at Jessa and she'll be staring at her stomach watching Cole move. It'll even be a chick flick or something that I don't want to watch, and she'll decide to watch her stomach instead. psh...girls...

We're really excited to get into our new house. Jessa and I want to paint Cole's room. We're thinking blue sponge paint around the bottom three feet of the room, and then a border just above that. Then we'll keep the rest of the room white. :-) We have most of the bedding picked out...it's sort of a safari theme. Lots of monkeys, of course. I tried to throw a few wolves in there, but that's just not happening.

Last Friday I had my glucose test for diabetes and a test to make sure that my bladder infection was gone. Both came back normal :)

Lately I've been feeling like I'm going to pass out quite a bit. I've had to leave classes a couple times because of it. Yesterday in church it started so I had to go outside and get some air. Today I passed out in the car on the way back to Winona. Luckily my friend was driving so I was okay. I am not sure if I completely passed out or not, but I could not see or hear. I felt conscious though, so who knows. Either way, it was really scary. I called the nurse line right after and she said that it could be due to a few different things. She said not eating enough, standing for long periods of time, getting too hot, or the baby changing positions could cause it. Mostly they just cause low blood pressure which makes you pass out. I felt Cole moving a lot right before it happened, so I think that was the cause. I'm a little nervous to drive now, but I did feel it coming on so I would have been able to pull over if I was driving. I'm going to avoid driving right now and not go anywhere by myself to prevent it from happening again. Also, the nurse said that eating six small meals a day would help and to make sure I'm taking in enough fluids. I'm going to try that this week and see if it helps. Hopefully I'll be able to control it and not have it happen anymore!

Also, if you haven't heard, Matt and I are buying a house! It is actually a condo which basically means it is an apartment that we'll own. We made an offer on it last Wednesday and the accepted later that night. We are really excited! It has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, new carpet, mostly new appliances, a washer and dryer and a balcony. It seems really nice and we are very excited for Cole to have a bedroom!

Baby Shower!
I just had my first baby shower and it was tons of fun!! My friends here in Winona threw it for me. A ton of people ended up going it was nice to see everyone again. Many of them I don't see this semester because we have different schedules, so it was nice. We got tons of presents! I can't wait to bring all the baby stuff home and find places for it all. They had lots of good food there and CAKE! Also some games and stuff which are always silly but fun. Anyway, I had a good time. :)I'll post some pictures to Cole's website this weekend. That's all for now!

All Better!
After Jessa and I went to the doctor last week, she's been feeling much better. She took some pills to curb her nausea and fight her bladder infection. Thus far, they seem to have worked. She's feeling closer to 100% than she has in the past 5 weeks, so thank God for that!

Last night, she said when she was walking to her NSCS meeting, she felt Cole do something really weird. It was like he kicked really hard or something like that. Prior to this, she kept feeling him kick her bladder, because he is breech. However, after she felt this, she started feeling him moving around her belly button. So we're thinking (and hoping) that he flipped!

Jessa officially looks pregnant now, too! Her stomach decided to pop out this last week. :-)

Just wanted to keep everyone updated with what is going on. Sunday night when we got home from Matt's grandpa's birthday party, I started throwing up. I was sick all night and the next morning. I ended up going to the doctor yesterday and they found that I still have that bladder infection from weeks ago. The doctors didn't give me the right medication so it never completely went away. The doctor I saw yesterday seemed to actually know what he was talking about! It was a nice change! He put me on some new antibiotics and some medication for nausea so now I am able to keep food and water down.
Today I went back to the doctor because I am having back pain which indicates a kidney infection. The doctor said that my pain is pretty mild right now and I don't have a fever, so if I do have a kidney infection, it is pretty mild. He said I'm on the right medication now and I should feel better very soon. He had me schedule an appointment for Friday to find out if the bladder infection is gone. They said if I do have a kidney infection, there really isn't anything more that they would do with it at this point besides my medication. So I should be fine as long as my fever doesn't come back or the back pain gets worse.

Cole is doing fine. He's moving like crazy and really likes to kick my bladder at the moment! It doesn't feel too good but I'm glad he's still active after all of this. I'll update on Friday and let everyone know if things are back to normal. Bye!

Ultrasound Results
I was home sick Friday and finally got a chance to call the doctor about the ultrasound results. We were supposed to have an appointment with the doctor about it, but when we got there, the doctor discovered that he didn't have the results yet. It was really frustrating since Matt and I took time off of work for it, but we now have the results. Everything looks good! They said Cole is breech but I think with almost 4 months to turn we should be fine. They said the due date looks right and his size is right where it should be. No abnormalities were found!

I've been very sick lately and found out that I have a bladder infection. That explains all the body aches and fevers. I'm on some slow antibiotics but they are kicking in after 3 full days of fevers. Cole shouldn't be harmed from any of it as long as it doesn't turn into a kidney infection. I seem to be much better (still uncomfortable but fever-free), so we aren't too worried. I'll keep everyone updated though about how I'm doing.

February 2006

First Entry
I figured I'd write an entry about how the pregnancy has been going so far. Everything has been pretty good as far as the pregnancy goes. We've both been healthy so we are pretty lucky. I haven't had any complications so far. I'm 5 months pregnant as of tomorrow and I'm feeling pretty good. I have some weird food allergies and some hip pain, but other than that I feel fine. I really haven't had many cravings for the most part. I had a few early in the pregnancy but they have pretty much gone away. We just had the ultrasound a couple weeks ago and were really excited to find out that we are having a boy! It is nice to be able to use his name instead of calling him "it" or "the baby." Cole moves around like crazy these days. I feel him move all day long! It seems like he's doing aerobics these last couple of days because he has been very active.

That is pretty much it for now. I'll update as things come up and after doctor's appointments to keep everyone up to date!
